Pawling Little League Local Rules Baseball Minor League – 8, 9, & 10 Year Olds
Local Rules
- Pawling Little League is adopting Little League Rule 4.04 in which all players that are present for a game must be placed in the lineup. Meaning you bat everyone who shows for the entire game.
- Defensively, each player must play the field with the below guidelines (Games suspended and resumed at a future point will continue with all players’ accumulated playing time at the point of suspension). a.
3 innings in the field on a 6 inning game b. 2 innings in the field on a 5 inning game c. 1 inning in the field on a 4 inning game. 3. Managers and/or coaches must not cancel, postpone, or re-schedule a game. Changing the schedule will result in a forfeit for your team and count as a loss in the standings.
- If games are cancelled due to weather, all practices should be cancelled.
- Stealing (including passed balls) – Three advances per inning allowed. If a defensive player (such as the catcher) attempts to throw out the runner, the ball is live until it is returned to the pitcher’s mound. Any additional bases achieved during live ball do NOT count toward the allowed three advance rule per inning.
- There is to be no fake bunts and then swinging. This will result in an out. Once you show bunt, you either have to attempt to bunt or pull the bat back and take the pitch.
- The strike zone will be widened to include a baseball’s diameter inside or outside home plate.
- The Home team is responsible for the changing of the score on the scoreboard for both teams.
- Teams are allowed to play with 8 players, however, the 9th batter will be an out in the book.
- All games that are being followed by another game have a 2 hour time limit. This means no inning can start after 2 hours. The existing inning can finish out.
The Official Regulations and Playing Rules for Little League Baseball will be used for the final interpretation of any rule not covered by local rules. When referencing the Official Regulations, Pawling Little League’s ‘Minors’ division is considered ‘Minors’.
Rules from the Little League Rule Book and others that should be noted:

- All male catchers must wear an athletic supporter and cup.
- A player who is warming up the pitcher must be wearing a helmet with face guard and neck guard.

- Slaughter Rule: Once a team scores 5 runs in an inning, the inning is over. If the natural progression of a play results in more runners scoring, only 5 will count. The exception is the last inning or extra innings, where you can score until you receive 3 outs.
- All players must be in full uniform. Shirts must be tucked in at all times.
- If the catcher possesses the ball, the base runner has to slide at home. If the catcher is not in possession of the ball, they cannot block the plate. If the catcher blocks the plate without the ball, he/she will get a warning. If it happens a second time in a game, the catcher will be removed from the game.
- Once the pitcher gains possession of the ball while ON THE PITCHING RUBBER and the catcher is in the catchers box the ball is considered dead and no runners may advance past the base that they are going toward. However, if the runner is past the base when possession is declared, he/she may advance. If the pitcher attempts to throw the runner out, the ball is considered live again.
- There is no sliding into first base. Head first sliding is not allowed. A runner must slide or avoid intentional contact with the defensive players.
- A pitcher can go to catcher provided they haven’t thrown 41 pitches. Once they throw 41 pitches, they cannot catch. 40 pitches yes, 41, no. Any player who has played the position of catcher in four (4) or more innings in a game is not eligible to pitch on that calendar day.
- In addition to the required days rest, a pitcher may not pitch in more than one game per day. Know your pitching rules – these might have changed
